St. Albert Smart City Resident Sensor Pilot

As part of a ‘Smart Citizens for Smart Cities Canadian Tour’, the City of St. Albert is partnering with Alberta technology company SensorUp to conduct a Smart City Resident Sensor Pilot.

The pilot involves 25 participants building and then connecting small sensor kits at home that will contribute real-time data on particulate matter in the air. A workshop was held on July 8, 2017 to assist participants to learn about Smart Cities, assemble their sensor, connect it to their home Wi-Fi network, and view their data online.

SensorUp API Platform

SensorUp’s Platform acts as the bridge allowing devices to interact with each other and with 3rd-party web applications.

In this case, devices are in-situ, fixed, mobile, and wearable. In situation management, devices measure disparate phenomena, are sourced from numerous manufacturers, and belong to different organizations. SensorUp’s platform combined this variety into a single portal.

SensorUp provided cloud, server, and connection services.Check out SensorUp's IoT Platform »

Winnipeg Open Data Portal for Air Quality

10 Winnipeg citizens joined the Smart Citizens Workshop organized by The City of Winnipeg at the city hall and made their own sensors On August 29th, 2017.

For the first time, citizens of Winnipeg are able to access hyper-local air quality data and know their environment better. The Winnipeg air quality map is available here: http://smartwinnipeg.sensorup.com.

City of Winnipeg open data team integrated the real-time SensorThings API to the existing open data portal so that all the datasets are also available in the City of Winnipeg Open Data Portal.
