Connected Work innovator SensorUp announced today it has been named a winner of the Clean Resource Innovation Network’s (CRIN) Digital Oil and Gas Technology Competition securing critical funding to accelerate clean technology development and commercialization in the oil and gas industry.
The announcement made this morning by CRIN, recognizes SensorUp for the development of its Connected Work platform, which in combination with the company’s methane sensor detection, uses AI and IoT data to improve visibility and timely detection of methane leaks, one of the worst offenders of greenhouse gas emissions.
“We are thrilled to be acknowledged by CRIN for our innovative connected worker solution and for our ability to bring methane emission detection to the oil and gas industry companies,” says Dr. Steve Liang, CTO of SensorUp.
Leveraging Connected Work Data for Methane Detection
Early detection of rogue emissions of methane is one of the ways to limit greenhouse gas emissions, but it requires a multi-faceted approach and a departure from the status quo.
The traditional methods used to detect, communicate, and mitigate real-time situations in physical operations are siloed, manual and too slow. Many frontline oil and gas workers are still using binders. As a result, there are long delays in the detection and reporting of field issues. Preventable safety incidents are not predicted, standard operating procedures are not followed, fugitive emissions are not repaired, and costly redundant site visits are ordered.
SensorUp’s Connected Worker platform, combined with its methane solution, aggregates disparate IoT, wearables, GPS, digital twin, workflows, and voice communications into a coherent, real-time, system-of-systems to solve the information and collaboration gap.
Specific to the methane challenge set out in the CRIN competition, SensorUp’s solution aggregates and displays data from multiple sources of methane detection, including satellite and weather data, fixed “in-situ” sensors, mobile sensors, and more.
“This is a game changer for oil and gas companies,” says Liang. “Our solution will help them to improve environmental performance, meet climate change targets and deliver economic and public benefits for Canada.”
