[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Check out Dr. Steve Liang, founder of SensorUp, interviewed by Wei Hsu’s “Everything Linking” podcast!  Everything Linking is an IoT podcast features interviews with the top minds in Internet of Things.

Steve explains why it was important to him to found SensorUp: The company was founded to make the Internet of Things more open and interconnected. A major milestone is to offer an IoT cloud platform that is based open cloud APIs (e.g., OGC SensorThings API) rather than trainingicon-3proprietary vendor lock-in APIs. Very soon the market will consolidate the various heterogeneous IoT cloud platforms into a few winners. It is our vision that the Internet of Things (or Web of Things) will follow a path similar to the World-Wide Web. Open standard-based platform will prevail, and proprietary vendor lock-in platforms will be a history. SensorUp’s vision is to build the best possible open standard-based IoT platform, and empower anyone to innovate with IoT effortlessly. If we may use an analogy from the WWWW, SensorUp aims to be the Apache server of the Internet of Things.

When IoT is interoperable, values and new business models can be created by combining not a single IoT system but many different IoT systems and create a network effect. Such network effect is the real value of the IoT [see Porter’s HBR article on How Smart, Connected Products Are Transforming Competition for details]. SensorUp is the key enabler to release the real potential of IoT.
